Holidays - Birthdays - by Jennifer Lang

BIRTHDAYS

There are no laws in the Bible to celebrate them and no laws to forbid celebrating them. There are a couple of Scriptures that mention birthday celebrations, showing us that they DID celebrate them in ancient times. In both of these instances, bad things happened. I'll show you shortly. But first I want to make my point. The fact that two of them were significant enough to mention them in Scripture shows that the rest of them probably went without incident and were just normal birthday celebrations that show appreciation for loved ones being with them for another year, and acknowledging a persons number of years (age).

Making a wish and blowing out birthday candles is a pagan practice of divination, and we are forbidden as believers from doing divination. So we exclude this practice from any birthday celebrations we have. Even the candles themselves came from paganism - people thought there were magical powers in the flames of the candles that would carry their prayers and wishes to gods. The Greeks celebrated the birthday of their female pagan goddess, Artemis, with cakes adorned with lighted candles. This doesn't mean that candles are evil, but it seems best to not put them on 'birthday cakes' so that you're not imitating the works of darkness, as the Bible instructs.

We like to have a cake, because we like cake, and have a dinner at a buffet, because we like buffets, and a meaningful card, because we like to express our love in that way as well as others. We do not have birthday parties or make a big issue out of it.

What do the pagans think about birthdays? Well, it is the most important day to satanists and witches, because they worship themselves as gods, and celebrate this self-worship on their birthdays.  That does not mean they own the day of one's birth. Some people choose to not celebrate them because of this, and because of the two negative birthdays mentioned in the Bible:

1. The Pharaoh of Egypt on his birthday killed his baker (Gen 40:20)
2. King Herod on his birthday killed John the Baptist. (Matt 14:6).

While the Scriptures do not instruct us to celebrate our Messiah's birthday, they DO instruct us to celebrate Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets), which IS His birthday, and they show us through Revelation 12 when our Messiah, Yahushuwa, was born, as this section has double meaning which includes the day of His birth. He was born on Feast of Trumpets in 3 B.C., (which fell on our September 11th that year but it's not on Sept. 11th every year because our calendar differs from the Hebrew one), a feast day that we are commanded to celebrate. So yes, we are to celebrate the day Yahushuwa was born (and it was NOT on December 25th), not specifically as His birthday, but it is His birthday nevertheless. On Feast of Trumpets, I like to sing or hear songs about His birth, but that don't mention Christmas words, like "O Holy Night", "Silent Night", etc. And there wouldn't be anything wrong with putting up some pretty lights, since He is the light of the world. They could be lit right up through Feast of Tabernacles - lights around our sukkahs - if so desired.

See our page Yahuwah's Holy Days or Feast Days for more information about Feast of Trumpets.

Revelation 12:1-5 King James Version

1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

Illustration is from Ernest Martin's book
“The Star of Bethlehem: The Star that Astonished the World”

The woman in this constellation is Virgo, the sun is by her torso like it clothes her, the moon is below her feet, there are twelve stars around her head, the red dragon is actually a constellation that is positioned between her legs, and it actually looks like a red dragon, even though the verse represents SATAN attacking this woman’s offspring.

(Right – another illustration showing the red dragon in position to grab the baby at birth.)

6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of Yahuwah, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil, and satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our Yahuwah, and the power of his Messiah: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our Yahuwah day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of Yahuwah, and have the testimony of Yahushuwa ha Mashiach.

There is a lot to this, and others have written about it better than I would, unless I repeated them word for word, so I’ll give the name of the webpage where you can learn more if you want to. If you go read the book “The Star of Bethlehem: The Star that Astonished the World” by Ernest L. Martin, Ph.D., it gives the details of exactly how we can know the exact day and hour of His birth. You can get this book for free online as a PDF document, or read it for free online, or order a hard-copy: Go here to get it.

Here are some webpages that explain in great detail why Yahushuwa was born on Feast of Trumpets and not on December 25th:
