Judging Others - by Jennifer Lang

Judging

Judge not, that ye be not judged?

There are different kinds of judgment. One verse says to judge ‘righteous judgment’. The purpose of judgment in the body of professing believers is to warn the other to repent so they don’t end up in Yahuwah’s judgment.

Here's the verse Christians all LOVE to quote, out of context, and by leaving off the last part. In fact, they usually just quote verse 1, and sometimes they include verses 2 and 3, but they stop there.

Matthew 7:1-5 King James Version
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Pay special attention to verse 5 (which they hardly EVER quote!), which gives you the prerequisite to judging – to make sure you have cleaned up your own life in that area before you judge the other IN THAT AREA! Yeah, so if you are committing fornication, then when you judge another for fornication, you will be judged for the same thing. But if you’ve repented of fornicating, then you can help the other to overcome the temptation to fornicate. Is this really so hard to understand?
Next is a verse that better explains the one above:

Romans 2:1-3 King James Version
1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of Yahuwah is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of Yahuwah?

Leviticus 19:15 King James Version
15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

1 Corinthians 2:15 King James Version
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

1 Corinthians 6:2-5 King James Version
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

Bringing someone’s sin to their attention and confronting them with it should cause them to judge themselves and repent so they don’t have to get judged by Yahuwah.

1 Corinthians 11:31-32 King James Version
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of Yahuwah, that we should not be condemned with the world.

This next one is talking about a man with a sexual sin/perversion, who was ‘within’ – in other words, claimed to be a godly person – claimed to be a Christian, but lived in sin. Not only does it say to judge him, but it says to put him out of the congregation! This is because he hasn’t repented.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13 King James Version
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13 But them that are without Yahuwah judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

And this verse lets us know that we’d BETTER confront someone of their sin, or their blood will be on our hands, and this is not a good thing. It means we are responsible for them when they are judged by Yahuwah because we didn’t warn them.

Ezekiel 3:18-21 King James Version
18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

James 5:20 King James Version
20 Let him know, that he which converteth (turn him back) the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

So please don’t say to a believer when they confront you of a sin or error “Judge not lest you be judged!” Instead, examine yourself, and if you need to repent of something, then do so, and thank the person for letting you know. If you don’t know, then open your Bible and look it up, and pray for guidance. Judgment is a very important part of Yahuwah’s love, and He is not the only one who judges – we are instructed to also. The Scripture below lets us know that judgment and love of Yahuwah go together. It’s important to obey the laws, but we are not to leave out judgment AND the love of Yahuwah:

Luke 11:42 King James Version
42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of Yahuwah: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Yahuwah’s judgment is not always gentle, lovey dovey and smooth. He was loving the religious leaders when He cracked the whip and knocked over the money-changers’ tables and yelled at them. He was loving when He called people vipers and snakes! People love to just look at the lovey dovey side of Him, and He is very loving to His own children, but He also gets angry at his enemies. And The next time someone tells you, JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED!!! tell them this!: "Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear." 1 Timothy 5:20 (NKJV)
